Kevin McClain introduced an information item to bring a new position into the AS. The new position would serve as an assistant under McClain, the AS Vice President for Campus and Community Affairs. The position would work on sustainability and transportation issues. Samantha Dyess, Personnel Office Director who was “not totally comfortable with the job description,” planned on taking the job description to the Personnel Committee before it came back to the AS Board of Directors.
Victor Cuellar, AS Pop Music Assistant Coordinator, then introduced his information item that asked the board for a large event loan funding request. The loan would be put towards bringing a large musical act to campus in the Winter quarter. AS Pop Music needs the large loan in order to have enough money to negotiate a contract with a big act. The item will be voted on next week.
The largest action item brought to a vote by the AS Board of Directors was on bringing the Outback into the AS. The proposal, which has been several years in the making, was revised by Stefan Kalb. The program will build a partnership between Fairhaven College and the AS by creating an Outback Coordinator position in the AS. Previously Fairhaven helped to fund the Outback’s functions. The proposal calls for about $6,000 for the salary of the Outback Coordinator and about $900 for supplies for the site. The Dean of Fairhaven has also agreed to continue providing $5,000 a year to the Outback. The motion passed 7-0.
The Board moved on to approving committee charge and charters. The charge and charters for the Transportation Advisory Committee, Promotions Committee, Facilities and Services Council and the Management Council were all voted on. All of the charge and charters passed 7-0.
Student Senate Chair, Christian Opfer, updated the board on new members of the Student Senate. Opfer also informed the board of the upcoming Student Senate event, “Big Freeze,” a popsicle eating contest.
