Evan Marczynski/The AS Review

Vice President for Business and Operations Benjamin Brockman called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. Two board members were absent, Associated Students President Colin Watrin and VP for Governmental Affairs Byron Starkey, who were both in Olympia meeting with state lawmakers.
Board members looked at a budget proposal brought by AS Personnel Director Brianne Kumar to combine the student development fund and the department development fund into one single AS staff development fund. In her proposal, Kumar wrote that the department fund was not being used nearly as consistently as the student fund, and combining the two would give student employees easier access to the money in each of them. Assistant Personnel Director Morgan Jade spoke to the board and answered questions about the proposal. Vice President for Student Life Jamin Agosti wondered why the board was considering the proposal instead of the AS business director, and he said board members could instead focus on making a recommendation to the business director rather than making a decision themselves. Vice President for Academic Affairs Ramon Rinonos-Diaz said he would like to know if AS department managers would use the combined fund before considering a decision on the proposal.
Next, the board discussed a charge and charter for the Facilities and Services Council, which oversees the operations and establishes and reviews policies for numerous AS facilities and services. Brockman, the chair of the council, was concerned about the lack of attendance at council meetings by representatives from the different AS programs involved. The board went over the charge and charter for a while, then decided to approve the document until the first board meeting in February, when it can then be brought back for further discussion and possible revision.
During board member reports, VP for Activities Alisha Beck said the Elect Her training initiative will happen on Feb. 12 and that application and Facebook invitations are being sent around. Agosti said the Green Energy Fee Committee will release application materials next week and will then begin the process of looking over student proposals. The meeting adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
AS Board of Directors meetings are open to the public. They are usually held at 6 p.m. every Wednesday in VU 567. More information can be found online at gov.as.wwu.edu.
