Dear (Enter Your Name Here),

How was your summer? I hope you enjoyed the great weather, had many adventures with good company and ate plates of delicious food off the grill. Now that you’re all rested up, it is my honor to welcome you to the one hundred and first year of Western Washington University’s Associated Students!
As we trade in our SPF and short shorts for spiral notebooks and pens, a new year is officially before us. I don’t know about you, but I’m so excited that I just can’t hide it. I’m excited for the groundbreaking programs that will challenge you and create dialogue. I’m excited to enjoy all of the artists, films and concerts we will host on campus. And I’m excited to offer services to students that will enhance their overall experience at Western.  I can’t wait to hear your values and represent them to the university and state legislature.  I’m also looking forward to see what new AS clubs will form this year and to celebrate the Viking Union’s 50th anniversary.  Most of all, I’m excited you’re here.
The Associated Students can’t have a successful year without you.  As a student-run organization, it is our goal for students to serve students.  We want to hear your ideas and opinions to better represent you.  We want you to utilize our resources and celebrate our hard work by enjoying the programs we bring to you each week.  We want you to be involved in the organization that you are at the heart of.
Again, I’m very excited you’re here.  If you need anything, let me know, I’m here for you.  Have a great year!

Your Friend and AS President,
Matt  Jarrell

P.S.: This October I’m having eight Talk Times with students in each of the colleges to identify student values and areas of challenge within the university.  I want to hear from you! For more information, please check out the poster on the last page of this issue.  I hope to see you there!
