Shiffite Awel, freshman

Intended Major: Accounting

Before I graduate Western I want to… study abroad in Africa.  I’m going to be minoring in Arabic. So I want to learn about other cultures. My family is from Ethiopia and I just want to get more of an understanding of other people’s cultures. I’m going to hopefully be majoring in Accounting with a minor in Arabic and Women’s Studies.”

Max Singler, junior

Major: Studio Art

Before I graduate Western I want to… sleep in the Arboretum. I think that the fact that we have an area like the Arboretum so close to campus is very lucky of us - especially compared to some of other universities that might be in the middle of nowhere. We are blessed with the view of the bay and just an exquisite example of the northwest environment. I’ve seen a tree fort and a guy has slept in the Arboretum for a full quarter – he was living in there – so I guess, just in honor of that.”

Casey Bateman, senior

Major: Geology

Before I graduate Western I want to… have the capability to teach what I have learned. I came here to engage in higher learning. I paid outwards of $7,000 a year to be taught by some good and bad professors. The reason I want to have the capability to teach what I have learned is because when you can teach what you have learned well and efficiently to people and help them understand, I think that is when you know that you understand something best.”

Michaela Trulson, sophomore

Major: Communications and Public Relations

Before I graduate Western I want to… make a positive different. I want to make a difference just by putting a smile on people’s faces and making people want to come to school instead of have to come to school. I want it to be a positive environment because I know a lot of times people come and they just have their mind set on what they have to do but if people come and they feel loved and invited, it will make a really big difference on our campus.”

Brianna Ellis, junior

Major: Creative Writing

Before I graduate Western I want to… kayak the Puget Sound. I want to kayak the Puget Sound because the Puget Sound is very pretty and I’ve never been kayaking. The Puget Sound is so close and it’s really, really pretty.

Nicholas Sweeney, junior

Major: Creative Writing

Before I graduate Western I want to… publish at least three short stories. I’ve applied to a couple of different places such as Apex Magazine, which is a Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine and Shimmer. I primarily write Science Fiction and Fantasy. My favorite writer for right now is, I’m reading a lot of Ray Bradbury, but my personal favorite is, of course, Stephen King. This one piece I’m writing is about an alternative world set in medieval time often deals with low fantasy and intrigue woven into the world.”
