Tuesday May 14th: The Wheelchair Experience: Wheelchairs checked in and out of the Viking Union Multi-Purpose Room from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm This is a disability simulation. 10 students will have the ability to spend the day in a wheelchair as a learning experience to increase understanding of the disability community and shed light on any accessibility issues on campus. Steve Ferreira Inspirational Speech: Viking Union Multi-Purpose Room from 6:00-8:00 pm Steve Ferriera is an internationally recognized wheelchair track and field athlete who will be speaking about the barriers and benefits associated with disability. Wednesday May 15th: Evanna Lynch Speech on Body Image: Performing Arts Center Concert Hall starting at 7:30 pm This event is sponsored by AS Special Events and co-sponsored by the Disability Outreach Center, The Women’s Center, and the Harry Potter Club. Evanna Lynch will discuss mental wellness and body image. Thursday May 16th: Out of the Ashes Musical Performance: Underground Coffeehouse from 5:00-6:15 pm Out of the Ashes is a music therapy group that will be performing at Club Night in the Underground Coffeehouse in association with the DOC and the Sharing Interests Forming Friendships club (SIFF) Friday May 17th: The Wheelchair Panel: Viking Union 462 A/B from 7:00-9:00 pm Students and community members, both with and without disabilities, will gather to discuss respectful communication with the disability community, campus accessibility, and mobilization of the student body to empower and support students with disabilities on our campus.
