We Dreamt Deaf: Nicholas Galanin
We are honored to present the work of Nicholas Galanin at the VU Gallery in his solo exhibition "We Dreamt Deaf." The exhibition runs from January 9th-26th from 11am-5pm Monday through Friday.
Nicholas Galanin will also be here on January 12th, for an artist lecture entitled Alien Tradition in which will discuss how the show "references the alien (European) tradition of settlers bringing beliefs of supremacy, manifest destiny and disregard to Indigenous land. Alien Tradition shares the inability of settler culture to stand by their own words, spoken or written." The lecture is FREE and will be held in Fraser 102 from 5-6pm.
Join us after the lecture for the opening reception in the VU Gallery from 6-8PM. The reception is open to everyone and refreshments will be provided.
Beyond Borders is an exhibition presented by the Viking Union Gallery that is designed to showcase outstanding artwork created by Fine Art students in the Western United States and Canada in order to stimulate dialogue among new artists, their peers, and the established art community. The title, "Beyond Borders," exemplifies our dedication to encourage communication across community, national, international and social borders. The title also serves to remind viewers and participants that art has the power to transcend all boundaries.
All currently enrolled undergraduate students in California, Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, Washington, and British Columbia are eligible.
All artwork is chosen by a volunteer jury, that is selected based on their knowledge and experience in the field of art. The jurors also decide on Beyond Borders first, second, and third place winners which receive cash prizes. Honorable mentions are also included when applicable.
