WOOT sessions 1-8 are offered in unison with Fall Adivising & Orientation Sessions 1-8.

Summer WOOT Sessions 1-8 are intended for students participating in the Fall Advising & Orientation Sessions 1-8 only. Do not register for WOOT until you are registered for your Fall Advising & Orientation Session.

 

Once registered for your Fall & Advising Orientation Session, please ensure that you sign up for the same corresponding WOOT session as your WOOT Experience will begin on the 2nd afternoon of your Fall A&O Session.

 

For example, if you signed up for Fall A&O Session 2, you will sign up for WOOT session 2.

 

Additionally, WOOT is offered the week prior to the start of Fall Quarter. 

Fall WOOT Sessions 9-16 are best for students traveling from out of state. You may participate in any of the Fall WOOT & Advising Sessions (1-9) offered.

WOOT 2019 ROUTES!!

 

San Juan Sea Kayaking

On this WOOT! experience, you will spend six days in the field with your fellow WOOT-ers exploring the San Juan Islands via kayak. We’ll use Viqueen, our rustic cabin on Sinclair Island, as a home-base as we venture out on day and overnight excursions to the surrounding islands for hikes, camping, and viewing the diverse wildlife of the Salish Sea. In addition, there may be an optional night paddle to experience the magic of bioluminescent algae that summer in the islands is known for!

Dates: Session 1 (Aug 6-12), Session 4 (Aug 13-19), Session 7 (Aug 20-26), Session 9 (Sept 15-21)

Level of Difficulty: Less strenuous to moderate

 

 

Bridge Creek Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the North Cascades National Park. Expect to hike 3.5  to 7.5 miles each day with little elevation gain.There may be an optional summit of Goode Ridge (7700’). Evenings will be spent learning how to cook backcountry delights with your cooking group, bonding with fellow WOOT-ers, and enjoying your spectacular surroundings.

Dates: Session 2 (Aug 8-14), Session 5 (Aug 15-21), Session 12 (Sept 15-21)

Chuckanuts Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the Chuckanuts - the closest mountain range to Bellingham! Expect to hike between 2 and 8 miles each day, with little elevation gain. The trail winds through mossy forests, leading to lakeside campsites. Highlights include overlooks of the San Juan Islands and beautiful Chuckanut sandstone formations. Evenings are usually spent playing camp games, perfecting the art of backcountry cooking, and getting to know your fellow WOOT-ers.

Dates: Session 10 (Sept 15-21), Session 11 (Sept 15-21)

Thunder Creek Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the North Cascades National Park. Expect to hike between 2 and 5 miles each day, with minimal elevation gain. Evenings are usually spent in streamside or forest campsites, with vistas of surrounding peaks, learning the basics of backcountry cooking, playing games, and getting to know your fellow WOOT-ers.

Dates: session 14 (Sept 15-21)

Level of Difficulty: Less strenuous to moderate



Rainbow Loop Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the North Cascades National Park. Expect to hike between 3 to 7 miles each day, with moderate elevation gain. The trail passes the refreshing waters of Rainbow Lake and McAlester Lake, not to mention plenty of mountain streams. Highlights include scenic vistas and lush alpine meadows. Evenings are usually spent playing games, perfecting the art of backcountry cooking, and getting to know your fellow WOOT-ers.

Dates: Session 3 (Aug 10-16), Session 6 (Aug 17-23), Session 8 (Aug 22-28), Session 15 (Sept 15-21)

Devils Dome Loop Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the Pasayten Wilderness & North Cascades National Park. Expect to hike between 5  and 12 miles each day, with substantial elevation gain. This wilderness experience offers several high alpine views of the greater North Cascades. The trail begins at the East Bank trailhead climbing up to Jackita Ridge traversing to Devils Dome eventually dropping back down to Ross Lake. Evenings are usually spent in Alpine Meadows or forest campsites learning the basics of backcountry cooking, playing games, and getting to know your fellow WOOT-ers.

Dates: Session 13 (Sept 15-21)

Blue Lake Backpacking

On this WOOT, you’ll spend six days backpacking in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Expect to hike between 4 and 12 miles each day, with substantial elevation gain. The trail passes Reflection Pond and Blue Lake, offering our most remote experience. Evenings are usually spent in lakeside or forest campsites learning the basics of backcountry cooking, playing games, and getting to know your fellow WOOT-ers.

Dates: Session 16 (Sept 15-21)
